Review: Paradise PD (Season 1)

Paradise PD is a new animated series on Netflix, set in the fictional city of Paradise and focuses on it's police department which doesn't have the manpower to stop crime. The first season concentrates on Kevin, a young man who looks up to his policeman father Randall who understandably hates him for shooting off both his testicles when he was younger, Kevin always dreamed of becoming a cop and applies to become one and because of the lack of personnel his father reluctantly accepts his application. Kevin then begins a long investigation on the drug king pin who is distributing 'argyle meth' which doesn't get it's own resolution until the 10th and final episode, and even so it even gives us something to look forward to.

Dusty hast too many cats.
One of the great things about the show is the freedom that the creators were given to make it as perverted as possible. I don't want anyone who enjoys making or watching this feel uncomfortable with that statement but then again I think I've found my new favorite show (sorry Westworld) and it nearly has everything for everyone. The characters are also very interesting despite some of them being stereotypical tropes but the writers also deconstruct some of them and nearly everything about this show works to its benefit maybe aside from Robbie and Delbert who were funny in the first few episodes and whose screen time should have been given to Hobo Cop (season 2 maybe?)

Fitz is brought into court to defend himself against himself.
All the episodes make for a fun watch, but my favorite episode has to be Black and Blue where Gina and Fitz go on assignment to bust a drug deal in the middle of the night and Fitz's PTSD is triggered. I love how the news media was portrayed in this though it adds to the confusion of today's 'fake news' phenomenon but mainly because of the hilarious interactions between the characters involved particularly Fitz and Dusty's quasi cosplay of an old tv show Hee-Haw as well as Hopson's misadventures in a retirement home that grows and harvests seafood on the residents by injecting sea creature DNA in them.

The crew of Paradise PD (L-R): Stanley Hopson, Gerald Fitzgerald, Kevin Crawford, Randall Crawford, Bullet, Dusty Marlowe and Gina Jabowski

Overall, everyone involved on this show has won me over and I really can't wait for season 2 when it drops and hopefully we get to see more of Hobo Cop this time around.

4 stars.
